Message to My Readers 082222

Well, it has been exactly 4 weeks since my last blog update.  Here is another update of this blog.

This time it is 114 pages of links to the news covering the last 4 weeks.  They appear in the categories listed below, including Veterans, Criminal Justice and Racism and Ageism and other discrimination, Economics and Coronavirus, Economics and Corruption and Healthcare and Education, Ecology and Pollution and Climate Change, Politics and Coronavirus, Politics, Terrorism, Military, and General and Miscellaneous.   Don’t forget to click on the items in the column on the right to open the pages for those categories.  Then, click on the link to each article for details pertaining to that headline.

Regarding the coronavirus pandemic, in the past four weeks there have been 24.7 million new cases in the world, 67 thousand new deaths in the world, 3 million new cases in the U.S.A., 13.1 thousand new deaths in the U.S.A., 86 thousand new cases in Pennsylvania, 412 new deaths in Pennsylvania, 11.4 thousand new cases in Philadelphia, and 33 new deaths in Philadelphia.  During this past four weeks, almost all the deaths were among the unvaccinated; there were almost no deaths among people who were vaccinated.  The cumulative totals for each of these categories since the beginning of the pandemic are now as follows: 601,254,050; 6,472,851; 95,345,858; 1,065,569; 3,147,474; 46,474; 354,168; and 5,232.

During the next few months, we will continue to contend with the variants and subvariants of the coronavirus.  While the virus continues to mutate we must remain vigilant.  Until the deaths are down to, and remain at, zero for several days, we should not become too relaxed about wearing face masks and being fully vaccinated and boosted.  Everyone all ages should be fully vaccinated and boosted.  For more info on Covid-19 in Pennsylvania, see:

https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Coronavirus.aspx

Most of the coverage of coronavirus can be found in “Economics and Coronavirus” and/or “Politics and Coronavirus” related links in this update.

Monkeypox is a new virus (for the U.S.A.) that is not as contagious or as lethal as coronavirus that is now gaining a foothold in the U.S.A.  It spreads from skin-to-skin contact and can be spread from clothing and bed linen and towels.  This is another good reason for practicing good infectious disease protocols.  If you have been vaccinated against Smallpox, you may have some immunity.  Other vaccines and methods of injecting are being developed and implemented.

Polio is also making a resurgence and people should be getting vaccinated.

The war of resistance by Ukraine against the Russian invasion about 180 days ago continues on.  Ukraine, with financial and material assistance from various other nations, including the U.S., has been able to repel many Russian initiatives.  The Russian strategy appears to be to destroy the infrastructure, such as hospitals, to force the population to flee.  Between 5 and  6 million refugees have fled to other countries.  Most of the coverage of the Russian war against Ukraine can be found in “Terrorism” related links in this update.

The world is in a great struggle to determine if the dominant form of government will be authoritarianism or democracy.  Even here in the United States, long known as the world’s beacon of democracy, there is a question about whether democracy can survive without another civil war.

We must continue to resist tyranny, fascism, authoritarianism, racism, sexism, misogyny, xenophobia, etc.  The three impurities of life are avarice, anger, and ignorance.  What others need from us is respect, kindness, and love.  The more respect, kindness, and love that we give to others, the more respect, kindness, and love we get in our lives and the better we feel about ourselves.  The 7.9 billion human beings on planet earth need to cooperate more with each other and compete less with each other.  We all need to learn how to equitably and sustainably share the resources of the earth with each other and with all other species on planet earth.

Peace and love to all.  Feedback is welcome.  My contact information is:

Evacuate Our Allies Urges Swift Passage of Afghan Adjustment Act.  Brittany Dymond, associate director for National Legislative Service at the VFW said:  “Too many Afghans never made it to the United States, and those who did have faced many difficulties. Resources are scarce and bureaucratic roadblocks face them on a daily basis. Thousands of VFW members worked side by side with our Afghan allies during their deployment overseas. Now it is time we help those same comrades-in-arms who seek new lives in our great nation. The AAA is the first step in helping these brave Afghans assimilate in the U.S. It will help them on the path to the American dream. We must quickly pass this legislation to make sure every Afghan counts, just like every veteran counts.”
