Message to My Readers 100822

Well, it has been a little more than 6 weeks since my last blog update.  Here is another update of this blog.

This time it is 153 pages of links to the news covering the last 6 weeks.  They appear in the categories listed below, including Veterans, Criminal Justice and Racism and Ageism and other discrimination, Economics and Coronavirus, Economics and Corruption and Healthcare and Education, Ecology and Pollution and Climate Change, Politics and Coronavirus, Politics, Terrorism, Military, and General and Miscellaneous.   Don’t forget to click on the items in the column on the right to open the pages for those categories.  Then, click on the link to each article for details pertaining to that headline.

Regarding the coronavirus pandemic, in the past 6 weeks (up through 10/05/2022) there have been 23.2 million new cases in the world, 80.8 thousand new deaths in the world, 3 million new cases in the U.S.A., 19.8 thousand new deaths in the U.S.A., 119.5 thousand new cases in Pennsylvania, 849 new deaths in Pennsylvania, 10.7 thousand new cases in Philadelphia, and 75 new deaths in Philadelphia.  During this past six weeks, almost all the deaths were among the unvaccinated; there were almost no deaths among people who were vaccinated.  The cumulative totals for each of these categories since the beginning of the pandemic are now as follows: 624,506,285; 6,553,650; 98,308,956; 1,085,366; 3,266,934; 47,323; 364,863; and 5,307.

So, we STILL are not out of the woods with Covid-19.  During the next few months, we will continue to contend with the variants and subvariants of the coronavirus.  While the virus continues to mutate we must remain vigilant.  Until the deaths are down to, and remain at, zero for several days, we should not become too relaxed about wearing face masks and being fully vaccinated and boosted.  With fall and winter seasons unfolding before us, we must remain vigilant.  Now is the time for the annual flu shot.

There is a new booster shot available for omicron from either Pfizer (for anyone 12 or older) or Moderna (for anyone 18 or older).  To get either one, you need to be at least two months removed from completing a primary vaccine series or receiving any other covid shot.  Everyone all ages should be fully vaccinated and boosted.  For more info on Covid-19 in Pennsylvania, see:

https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Coronavirus.aspx

Most of the coverage of coronavirus can be found in “Economics and Coronavirus” and/or “Politics and Coronavirus” related links in this update.

Monkeypox is a new virus (for the U.S.A.) that is not as contagious or as lethal as coronavirus that is now gaining a foothold in the U.S.A.  It spreads from skin-to-skin contact and can be spread from clothing and bed linen and towels.  This is another good reason for practicing good infectious disease protocols.  If you have been vaccinated against Smallpox, you may have some immunity.  Other vaccines and methods of injecting are being developed and implemented.

Polio is also making a resurgence and people should be getting vaccinated.

The war of resistance by Ukraine against the Russian invasion about 228 days ago continues on.  Ukraine, with financial and material assistance from various other nations, including the U.S., has been able to repel many Russian initiatives.  Most of the coverage of the Russian war against Ukraine can be found in “Terrorism” related links in this update.

Since the invasion, 2,772,010 Ukrainian refugees have been recorded crossing the border into Russia.

At least 12 million people have fled their homes since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

With the improved weaponry provided to Ukraine during the past six weeks, Ukraine has been able to retake some Ukrainian land previously taken by Russia.  Meanwhile, Russia has suffered such great losses of manpower and material that Putin is attempting to recruit 300,000 new conscripts into the Russian military.  To avoid conscription, about 700,000 eligible men have left Russia.

The world is in a great struggle to determine if the dominant form of government will be authoritarianism or democracy.  Even here in the United States, long known as the world’s beacon of democracy, there is a question about whether democracy can survive without another civil war.

We must continue to resist tyranny, fascism, authoritarianism, racism, sexism, misogyny, xenophobia, etc.  The three impurities of life are avarice, anger, and ignorance.  What others need from us is respect, kindness, and love.  The more respect, kindness, and love that we give to others, the more respect, kindness, and love we get in our lives and the better we feel about ourselves.  The 7.98 billion human beings on planet earth need to cooperate more with each other and compete less with each other.  We all need to learn how to equitably and sustainably share the resources of the earth with each other and with all other species on planet earth.

Peace and love to all.  Feedback is welcome.  My contact information is:

Why Do I Need A Lawyer to File a Camp Lejeune Lawsuit? About toxic exposure of those who were stationed at Camp Lejeune, MCB, NC between Aug. 1, 1953, and Dec. 31, 1987.  Commercials paid for by law firms are a result of Section 804 of the recently enacted PACT Act that provides comprehensive toxic exposure benefits. This specific section of the law allows people to sue the government for damages for individuals exposed to toxic substances while residing at Camp Lejeune. These lawsuits often take several years to come to a settlement, the attorney representing the claimant receives a substantial portion of the settlement, and there is an offset of VA disability benefits with any settlement that may be received through a lawsuit. VA regulations on this are expected in the coming months.

VA Secretary Addresses Staff Shortages to Better Serve Hawaii's Vets: As reported October 6 by Kevin Knodell for the Tribune News Service, VA Secretary Denis McDonough testified on the island of Oahu on Wednesday about the state of health services in Hawaii, including staff shortages, women's care, and complaints from community clinic providers about payments. Hawaii is home to an estimated 100,000 veterans spread across Oahu and neighboring islands. All are served by the Oahu-based VA Pacific Islands Healthcare System, which is also responsible for providing care to veterans across the U.S. Pacific Island territories of American Samoa, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. "Health care of all kinds is in short supply throughout the Pacific islands and Hawaii," McDonough said. "We've made hiring and retention one of our top priorities, noting that nationwide the department estimates it will need to hire 45,000 nurses over the next three years.
