Message to My Readers 052421

Well, dear readers, I have been moved to update this blog today with another 400 pages of links to the news covering the last six months.  They appear in the categories listed below, including Veterans, Criminal Justice and Racism and Ageism and other discrimination, Economics and Coronavirus, Economics and Corruption and Healthcare and Education, Ecology and Pollution and Climate Change, Politics and Coronavirus, Politics, Terrorism, Military, and General and Miscellaneous.

Regarding the coronavirus pandemic, in the past six months there have been 111 million new cases in the world, 2.1 million new deaths in the world, 22 million new cases in the U.S.A., 348 thousand new deaths in the U.S.A., 913 thousand new cases in Pennsylvania, 17.5 thousand new deaths in Pennsylvania, 94.7 thousand new cases in Philadelphia, and 1.7 thousand new deaths in Philadelphia.  The cumulative totals for each of these categories since the beginning of the pandemic are now as follows: 167,603,151; 3,480,015; 33,896,752; 604,089; 1,200,202; 27,147; 151,949; and 3,637.

We must continue to resist tyranny, fascism, authoritarianism, racism, sexism, misogyny, etc.  The three impurities of life are avarice, anger, and ignorance.  What others need from us is respect, kindness, and love.  The more respect, kindness, and love that we give to others, the more respect, kindness, and love that comes into our lives and the better we feel about ourselves.

“It’s not an abstract thought, to feel that something just isn’t right, to feel a sense of regret and remorse with the idea that what you are a part of, is killing people in the pursuit of another country’s natural resources, and disguising this insanity as ‘Protecting Democracy and Our Freedom’, or ‘Spreading Democracy’ one dead person (or thousands) at a time.”

New documentary celebrates DAV’s 100 years of service to America’s disabled veterans: “The Battle Never Ends,” an hour-long documentary airing on the HISTORY Channel and Military HISTORY Channel air throughout Veterans Day week, is a chronological look back at DAV and its accomplishments throughout the past century. The film focuses on how DAV responded to the emerging needs of disabled veterans and their families during each of America’s military engagements from World War I to today.

November is National Family Caregivers Month! Are you a hidden hero? Military family members know sacrifice through caring for their loved ones. Caregivers can suffer from health problems, employment difficulties, depression, deteriorating family relationships and financial challenges.  These problems can be increasing while facing the current healthcare crisis. The VA wants to stand with caregivers and assist them by providing expanded information and resources in caring for the servicemember but also in caring for themselves.

As the circle of practitioners grows, more products are being developed to support the work in different environments and parts of the world. While the work is predominately in English, some translations are available and we are working on more to provide greater global accessibility to this work.
