Message to My Readers 072522

Well, it has been exactly 3 weeks since my last blog update.  Here is another update of this blog.

This time it is 67 pages of links to the news covering the last 3 weeks.  They appear in the categories listed below, including Veterans, Criminal Justice and Racism and Ageism and other discrimination, Economics and Coronavirus, Economics and Corruption and Healthcare and Education, Ecology and Pollution and Climate Change, Politics and Coronavirus, Politics, Terrorism, Military, and General and Miscellaneous.   Don’t forget to click on the items in the column on the right to open the pages for those categories.  Then, click on the link to each article for details pertaining to that headline.

Regarding the coronavirus pandemic, in the past three weeks there have been 20 million new cases in the world, 41 thousand new deaths in the world, 2.6 million new cases in the U.S.A., 8.6 thousand new deaths in the U.S.A., 55 thousand new cases in Pennsylvania, 296 new deaths in Pennsylvania, 7 thousand new cases in Philadelphia, and 27 new deaths in Philadelphia.  During this past three weeks, almost all the deaths were among the unvaccinated; there were almost no deaths among people who were vaccinated.  The cumulative totals for each of these categories since the beginning of the pandemic are now as follows: 575,430,224; 6,403,511; 92,194,892; 1,051,996; 3,061,287; 46,062; 342,727; and 5,200.

During the next few months, we will continue to contend with the variants and subvariants of the coronavirus.  While the virus continues to mutate we must remain vigilant.  Until the deaths are down to, and remain at, zero for several days, we should not become too relaxed about wearing face masks and being fully vaccinated and boosted.  Everyone all ages should be fully vaccinated and boosted.  For more info on Covid-19 in Pennsylvania, see:

https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Coronavirus.aspx

Most of the coverage of coronavirus can be found in “Economics and Coronavirus” and/or “Politics and Coronavirus” related links in this update.

Monkeypox is a new virus (for the U.S.A.) that is not as contagious or as lethal as coronavirus that is now gaining a foothold in the U.S.A.  This is another good reason for practicing good infectious disease protocols.

The war of resistance by Ukraine against the Russian invasion about 152 days ago continues on.  Ukraine, with financial and material assistance from various other nations, including the U.S., has been able to repel many Russian initiatives.  However, Russia is ruthlessly destroying much of the infrastructure in the Eastern part of Ukraine and Ukraine is losing many soldiers each day.  Three American foreign legionnaires have been captured.  Most of the coverage of the Russian war against Ukraine can be found in “Terrorism” related links in this update.

The world is in a great struggle to determine if the dominant form of government will be authoritarianism or democracy.  Even here in the United States, long known as the world’s beacon of democracy, there is a question about whether democracy can survive without another civil war.

We must continue to resist tyranny, fascism, authoritarianism, racism, sexism, misogyny, xenophobia, etc.  The three impurities of life are avarice, anger, and ignorance.  What others need from us is respect, kindness, and love.  The more respect, kindness, and love that we give to others, the more respect, kindness, and love we get in our lives and the better we feel about ourselves.  The 7.9 billion human beings on planet earth need to cooperate more with each other and compete less with each other.  They need to learn how to equitably and sustainably share the resources of the earth with each other and with all other species on planet earth.

Peace and love to all.  Feedback is welcome.  My contact information is:

Press Releases

CHAIRMAN TAKANO ON HOUSE PASSAGE OF HIS HONORING OUR PACT ACT: “Once more, the House of Representatives has made clear to America's veterans how much we value their service and sacrifice.” Background: The House amendment to S. 3373, would rename the bill the “Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics Act of 2022,” remove the text of the underlying bill and insert the text of the Senate-passed version of H.R. 3967 minus one specific clause. That clause, in Title IX, specifically Sec. 902(e), relates to the tax treatment of income derived from contract buyouts of health care professionals as authorized by Sec. 902 of the bill. The Honoring our Promise To Address Comprehensive Toxics Act Of 2021 Or Honoring Our PACT Act is legislation authored by Chairman Mark Takano that will finally treat toxic exposure as a cost of war by addressing the full range of issues impacting toxic-exposed veterans including access to earned benefits and healthcare through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Chairman Takano’s legislation passed the House earlier this year with a bipartisan vote of 256-174 and has the strong support of 42 Veterans Service Organizations, Speaker Pelosi, Majority Leader Schumer, the Biden-Harris Administration, and advocates Jon Stewart and John Feal. The Senate passed an amended version of the bill with a vote of 84-14.
