Message to My Readers 031022

Well, it has been a little less than 6 weeks since my last blog update.  Here is another update of this blog.

This time it is 94 pages of links to the news covering the last 6 weeks.  They appear in the categories listed below, including Veterans, Criminal Justice and Racism and Ageism and other discrimination, Economics and Coronavirus, Economics and Corruption and Healthcare and Education, Ecology and Pollution and Climate Change, Politics and Coronavirus, Politics, Terrorism, Military, and General and Miscellaneous.   Don’t forget to click on the items in the column on the right to open the pages for those categories.

Regarding the coronavirus pandemic, in the past six weeks there have been 79 million new cases in the world, 371 thousand new deaths in the world, 5.6 million new cases in the U.S.A., 83.5 thousand new deaths in the U.S.A., 118 thousand new cases in Pennsylvania, 3,219 new deaths in Pennsylvania, 10 thousand new cases in Philadelphia, and 356 new deaths in Philadelphia.  During this past six weeks, almost all the deaths were among the unvaccinated; there were almost no deaths among people who were vaccinated.  The cumulative totals for each of these categories since the beginning of the pandemic are now as follows: 452,871,388; 6,048,898; 81,088,512; 990,446; 2,767,304; 43,767; 305,599; and 5,015.

During the next few months, we will be contending with the new Deltacron variant of the coronavirus.  There is not much known yet about the Deltacron variant.  However, until the deaths are down to, and remain, at zero for several days, we should not become too relaxed about wearing face masks and being fully vaccinated and boosted.  We are probably only about a week away from experiencing the one millionth death from Covid-19 in the United States (10,000 more than we have now).

“In February 2022, Putin again claimed that Ukrainians and Russians are one people. He sees Ukrainians and Russians as brother nations and says that because Russia is the older brother, it should get to be in charge.”  Then, two weeks ago, Russia invaded Ukraine and has been at war with Ukraine since.  Ukraine has surprised the world with the strength of their resistance to the Russian onslaught.  Over two million people have fled Ukraine and are now refugees.  About half of them are children.  Men aged 18 to 60 are required to remain in Ukraine and join the resistance.  Meanwhile, tens of thousands of volunteers from other nations are entering Ukraine to fight on both sides.  Many of them are combat veterans from other wars.  NATO nations, including the United States, are providing support, but are not putting troops on the ground in Ukraine.  However, the troop complements in some NATO nations have increased just to be prepared for a possible expansion of the conflict beyond Ukraine’s borders.

The world is in a great struggle to determine if the dominant form of government will be authoritarianism or democracy.  Even here in the United States, long known as the world’s beacon of democracy, there is a question about whether democracy can survive without another civil war.

We must continue to resist tyranny, fascism, authoritarianism, racism, sexism, misogyny, xenophobia, etc.  The three impurities of life are avarice, anger, and ignorance.  What others need from us is respect, kindness, and love.  The more respect, kindness, and love that we give to others, the more respect, kindness, and love we get in our lives and the better we feel about ourselves.

Peace and love to all.  Feedback is welcome.  My contact information is:
