Message to My Readers 082320

Another eventful thirteen days have passed since I last updated this blog.

Regarding the pandemic, there have been about 3.3 million new cases of COVID-19 in the world (17% increase), with about 75,000 (10% increase) new COVID-19 deaths in the world.  The average number of new cases per day in the world was about 257,000.  The average number of deaths per day in the world was about 5,700.  There have been about 643,000 (12% increase) new cases of COVID-19 in the USA, with about 15,000 (9% increase) new deaths in the USA.  The average number of new cases per day in the USA was about 49,000.  The average number of deaths per day in the USA was about 1,100. There have been about 9,800 (8% increase) new cases of COVID-19 in Pennsylvania, with about 273 (4% increase) new deaths in Pennsylvania.  The average number of new cases per day in Pennsylvania was about 760.  The average number of deaths per day in Pennsylvania was about 21. There have been about 1,800 (6% increase) new cases of COVID-19 in Philadelphia, with about 55 (3% increase) new deaths in Philadelphia.  The average number of new cases per day in Philadelphia was about 140.  The average number of deaths per day in Philadelphia was about 4. By comparison, there have been about 3,300 (12% increase) new cases of COVID-19 in Nebraska, with about 31 (9% increase) new deaths in Nebraska. The average number of new cases per day in Nebraska was about 258.  The average number of deaths per day in Nebraska was about 2.  There have been about 302 (9% increase) new cases of COVID-19 in Lancaster County, Nebraska, with 3 (18% increase) new deaths in Lancaster County, Nebraska.  The average number of new cases per day in Lancaster County, Nebraska was about 23.  The average number of deaths per day in Lancaster County, Nebraska was less than 1.

At this rate (average of 1,123 deaths per day in the USA), we can expect to suffer another 410,000 deaths over the next 12 months, at which time there may be a safe and effective vaccine available to all Americans or a therapeutic available for those with the worst infections.  Added to the 180,000 deaths already experienced, the total would then be 590,000 (over half a million American souls – more than the total KIAs in WWII).  Infection rates appear to be out of control in 29 of the 50 states in the nation.  The states with the most cases per million of population in order are: Louisiana, Florida, Arizona, Mississippi, Georgia, New York, Alabama, New Jersey, South Carolina, Nevada, Tennessee, and Texas.

Check out the countdown (less than 71 days) to the 2020 election on November 3rd:

https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/election?p0=263&iso=20201103T00&msg=2020%20US%20Presidential%20Election

It is time for all of us to speak up for and provide financial support for our preferred candidates, regardless of where they appear on the ballot.  This may be the most important election in the history of our nation.  It may decide if we remain a democratic constitutional republic or continue in the direction of becoming a kakistocratic kleptocratic fascistic oligarchic plutocracy/autocracy.  In the blog update of four weeks ago, the offices to be filled in the election were identified.  Become familiar with that and know how you will vote before you go to the polls or before you complete your ballot-by-mail.  All are urged to call or email (via their on-line Website) your elected officials and register your thoughts and feelings about the disruptions in the service of the U.S. Postal Service and insist that they ensure that there will be no disruption to exercising our right to vote.

Become aware of who is running for what office and how to be ready to vote for your local, state, and federal candidates.  For example, check this out:

It has sometimes been difficult to classify the items in this blog according to subject matter.  That is because many issues are so inextricably interrelated.  I have tried to organize the articles/information/links into the following categories:

Veterans – info on former military members, the consequences of their service, etc.

Criminal Justice and Racism and Ageism and other discrimination – info on dehumanization, etc.

Economics and Coronavirus – info on the pandemic, its economic impacts, etc.

Economics and Corruption and Healthcare and Education – info on capitalism vs. socialism, etc.

Ecology and Pollution – info on climate change (greatest existential threat to life on earth), etc.

Politics and Coronavirus – info on how the political structure is responding to the pandemic, etc.

Politics – info on power struggles between parties and special interests, etc.

Terrorism – info on the middle east, other geopolitical topics, etc.

Military – info on DoD, Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, Coast Guard, National Guard, etc.

General and Miscellaneous – info on spirituality, music videos, etc.

I hope you find the material in this update to be informative and of interest.  If you do, please share the link for this blog with your friends through social media and through email.  There is no financial benefit to me to produce this blog; it is a labor of love for the biosphere, including all humanity.  Thanks for reading and sharing.

Feedback is welcome.
