PTSD still a challenge for Vietnam veterans
The Philadelphia Museum of Art has instituted a program
entitled V.E.T. Art-Veterans Empowered Through Art.
As of the July 30, 2015, the program is for male veterans with physical and/or mental disabilities such as PTSD. It is for veterans who come as a group through the VA Hospital or other veterans' organizations. It is requested that at least one staff member from the organization accompany the veterans.
It is a one day program. The program consists of a tour through the museum, followed by an art lesson and round-table discussion(optional). The cost is $10 per veteran and includes admission to the museum, the tour, and art supplies for the art lesson. The staff member from the organization accompanying the veterans does not have to pay the fee.
The original group of veterans plan to return for future groups for a peer to peer discussion of the artwork they chose.
