Well, it has been a little more than 5 weeks since my
last blog update. Here is another update
of this blog.
This time it is 102 pages of links to the news covering
the last 5 weeks. They appear in the
categories listed below, including Veterans, Criminal Justice and Racism and
Ageism and other discrimination, Economics and Coronavirus, Economics and
Corruption and Healthcare and Education, Ecology and Pollution and Climate
Change, Politics and Coronavirus, Politics, Terrorism, Military, and General
and Miscellaneous. Don’t forget to
click on the items in the column on the right to open the pages for those
categories.
Regarding the coronavirus pandemic, in the past five
weeks there have been 24 million new cases in the world, 88 thousand new deaths
in the world, 2.3 million new cases in the U.S.A., 14.7 thousand new deaths in
the U.S.A., 60.4 thousand new cases in Pennsylvania, 390 new deaths in
Pennsylvania, 7.8 thousand new cases in Philadelphia, and 29 new deaths in Philadelphia. During this past five weeks, almost all the
deaths were among the unvaccinated; there were almost no deaths among people
who were vaccinated. The cumulative
totals for each of these categories since the beginning of the pandemic are now
as follows: 523,544,206; 6,291,615; 84,357,607; 1,026,899; 2,849,663; 44,814; 317,128;
and 5,110.
During the next few months, we will be contending with
the new Deltacron variant and its subvariants of the coronavirus. Subvariants of Concern include: B.1.1.529,
BA.1, BA.1.1, BA.2, BA.3, BA.4 and BA.5.
While the virus continues to mutate we must remain vigilant. Until the
deaths are down to, and remain at, zero for several days, we should not become
too relaxed about wearing face masks and being fully vaccinated and
boosted. During the past five weeks, we
blasted through the milestone one millionth death from Covid-19 in the United
States; those deaths now stand about 27,000 above a million.
The war of resistance by Ukraine against the Russian
invasion about 84 days ago continues on.
Ukraine, with financial and material assistance from various other
nations, including the U.S., has been able to repel many Russian
initiatives. Russia may soon be forced
to withdraw completely from Ukraine after suffering huge losses of personnel
and equipment. Over six million people
have fled Ukraine and are now refugees.
About half of them are children. Some
are beginning to return to Ukraine as the security situation is improving.
The world is in a great struggle to determine if the
dominant form of government will be authoritarianism or democracy. Even here in the United States, long known as
the world’s beacon of democracy, there is a question about whether democracy
can survive without another civil war.
We must continue to resist tyranny, fascism,
authoritarianism, racism, sexism, misogyny, xenophobia, etc. The three impurities of life are avarice,
anger, and ignorance. What others need
from us is respect, kindness, and love.
The more respect, kindness, and love that we give to others, the more
respect, kindness, and love we get in our lives and the better we feel about
ourselves. The 7.8 billion human beings
on planet earth need to cooperate more with each other and compete less with
each other. They need to learn how to
equitably and sustainably share the resources of the earth with each other and
with all other species on planet earth.
Peace and love to all.
