Here is another update of this blog. It has been 6 weeks since my last blog
update.
This time, the update consists of 110 pages of links to
the news covering the last 6 weeks. They
appear in the categories listed below, including Veterans, Criminal Justice and
Racism and Ageism and other discrimination, Economics and Coronavirus,
Economics and Corruption and Healthcare and Education, Ecology and Pollution
and Climate Change, Politics and Coronavirus, Politics, Terrorism, Military,
and General and Miscellaneous. Don’t
forget to click on the items in the column on the right to open the pages for
those categories.
Regarding the coronavirus pandemic, in the past six weeks
there have been 99 million new cases in the world, 313 thousand new deaths in
the world, 24 million new cases in the U.S.A., 80 thousand new deaths in the
U.S.A., 775 thousand new cases in Pennsylvania, 5,365 new deaths in
Pennsylvania, 94 thousand new cases in Philadelphia, and 485 new deaths in
Philadelphia. During this past 6 six weeks,
almost all the deaths were among the unvaccinated; there were almost no deaths
among people who were vaccinated. The
cumulative totals for each of these categories since the beginning of the
pandemic are now as follows: 373,741,363; 5,677,640; 75,481,122; 906,861; 2,649,247;
40,548; 295,307; and 4,659.
During the next few months, we will continue to contend
with the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, but it is expected to gradually
reduce in impact. However, there has
arrived on the scene a new subvariant.
The Omicron variant itself has mutated.
So, even as the omicron COVID-19 variant continues to sweep the globe,
scientists are now monitoring this new mutation, dubbed BA.2. As with Omicron, we will be on a steep
learning curve to determine how this new subvariant spreads, how lethal it is,
and whether or not existing vaccines provide protection against it. Therefore, it will continue to be important
to wear face masks and be fully vaccinated and boosted. It has been predicted that we could have over
a million deaths from Covid-19 in the United States (100,000 more than we have
now) before the pandemic finally winds down.
We must continue to resist tyranny, fascism,
authoritarianism, racism, sexism, misogyny, etc. The three impurities of life are avarice,
anger, and ignorance. What others need
from us is respect, kindness, and love.
The more respect, kindness, and love that we give to others, the more
respect, kindness, and love we get in our lives and the better we feel about
ourselves.
